Our Sallary, Our Life, are we rockstar?
July 12, 2007
Hi Guys, Check this out … I’m
so happy to see these articles from coroflot.com! A gift for all of you… I
remember from the rise of the creative class - Richard Florida, world is
getting fast and lacked of creative Rock star…Let’s try to be rock star
in the rockin’ place. What do you think;p , - Rich [have been updated for the graphic problem]
Design Salaries 2001-2006
All Good
Overall it has been a good year for creative salaries. Each field we surveyed
showed some growth, with Interior Design and Graphic Design making the
biggest gains. Our two new categories remain simple data points for now but
their position relative to the other fields is interesting - fashion design
has made its debut right up at the top of the pack! ahem. - Not that we are
encouraging readers to look at this chart in any kind of competitive-ranking
way. Do that and we’ll start polling plumbers, bankers
and urban waitstaffs just to keep it all in check!
Any salary is a
good salary if you are doing what you like.
Career Wages in Creative Fields
Career Path as Demarked by Dollars
We marked out four milestone creative positions to create a "compensation
career path" of sorts. It reveals the pacing and range of pay
in and between creative fields. Some interesting points… The
fields of Fashion Design and Interaction
/ Web Design are
exceptional for their great pay range. Architecture is notable for its
overall short salary span but also for the little room there is
left at the top of its practice for salary increases. Senior Interaction
/ Web Designers don’t make much more than those below them considering
the profession’s overall pay range. The milestone positions fall evenly
along the salary span of only one field; Graphic Design - perhaps it
is a more
disciplined
discipline?
Rock-osity, Who’s Got It?
We took the
average salaries of the top 14 countries in our survey and ran them through The
Economist’s Big Mac Index. Doing so allows us to see, in a compartive sense,
how "large" a designer "rolls" on his local turf. For instance,
the chart indicates that while cruising their respective neighborhoods, a
UK designer
rolls larger than does her German counterpart. The simple economic
explanation of these differences is that they are due to
deviations in demand - in some countries designers are simply hotter commodities
- and as is the case with rockstars, demand turns into dollar$$$. And
this is why we measure the degree of this demand in units of "rock-osity", of
which there are eleven.
